Alcossebre

The proximity to the sea and the mountains is what characterises Alcossebre. The town is thriving and lively with a population of around 6000 people. With festivals to look forward to in every season, the Spanish really know how to enjoy life.

Ten kilometres of beaches and coves can be contemplated from the splendid viewpoints offered by the mountains, with the natural resort Sierra d´Irta as a background setting. Continuous contrasts located in a rich landscape.

The natural resort of Sierra de Irta is an excellent natural sport area in which to practice trekking, as it rewards its visitors with excellent views.

There are also diverse monuments to visit like “Font de la Parra”. The autochthonous vegetation is rich and varied, with varieties of vegetation that have made it worthy of protection for its ecological importance. Rosemary, Lavender, Thyme and other aromatic plants offer their bouquet to passing visitors. Arbutus, Junipers, Camomile and Rock Tea appear along countless marked routes.

The northern coast is also wild, rugged and solitary like the Sierra de Irta. Rural tracks lead down to the sea where immense rocky areas alternate with tiny inlets of transparent water: a paradise for diving enthusiasts and a sharp contrast with the busy, sandy beaches and their full facilities closest to the centre of Alcoceber (Les Fonts, Carregador and Romana). Moving southwards lie yet more peaceful coves as far as Capicorb point. Besides diving, sailing is possible here - one company at Les Fonts Marina specialises in sailing charters and another organises diving expeditions to Columbretes Islands.

Loyalty to its gastronomic origins is present in the local cuisine, where fish is the star product, without forgetting seafood and rice dishes. The culinary quality is also demonstrated in the confectionery, that maintains certain Arab influences, certainly, in the local tradition of the elaboration of “Suspiros”, “Almendrados” and the “Coca Celestial”.
